did job with standard socket set and basic tools only "specialty" tools were a pulley puller and a torque wrench.not nearly as bad as some commenters online make it out to be.My question is regarding the actuators - do these typically need to be changed out as well? Is there a way to test these? My reading of the forums didn't find too many people talking about problems with the actuators, just the chains and the solenoids.Īlso wanted to note that the chain stretch was much more than I expected - with everything disassembled and wrapping the chain around the actuator sprocket you could clearly see that the last tooth and link were not aligned due to chain stretch. I have ordered new solenoids and Cloyne's timing chain kit 90753S. They recommended replacement of the timing chains, solenoids, and actuator - I'm not sure how hard they tried to diagnose the actual problem before just recommending to replace everything. I took it into a Chevrolet dealer for an opinion before doing any work. The codes come and go throughout a drive (I check every few minutes on my code reader). The motor runs well, idles well, and doesn't struggle with acceleration or towing loads. My 2012 Traverse with 201,000 km has been throwing codes P0017, P0018, P0019.Īfter some reading on this forum, I changed the oil and took out and tested/ cleaned the four VVT solenoids (they weren't that dirty and they tested ok).
